A Study on the Effects of Body Positions in Dorsogluteal Injection

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of discomfort from preoperative medication on dorsogluteal injection for different body positions.
Seventy-six preoperative medicated patients aged between fifteen and sixty-five were studied. Discomfort was measured on five-point scale rating.
The results of the study are summarized below.
1) There is no significant difference between the discomfort from different positions, namely, the prone position with femurs internally rotated and the prone position with femurs externally rotated at .05 significance level.
2) There is a significant difference between the discomfort from two different type of drugs.
3) There is no significant difference among the discomfort in age groups.
4) There is no significant difference between the discomfort in sex from dorsogluteal injection.
It is concluded that patients are indifferent in discomfort and may assume either an internal rotation of femurs or an external rotation of femurs when they take a dorsogluteal injection and also that psychological and cultural aspects are important to decrease the discomfort from injection. The study, however, did not take the problem of anxiety arising in operation and cultural aspects into consideration and gave no suggestions on reducing discomfort by employing different body positions.
